I’m sure most of you are probably wondering why I like to write about Uber. Well, thats because I love their business model and also because Uber has come through for me several times. Today I was having issues with booking a ride on Uber, the issue was card related, the Uber App needed me to verify my account. The verification process wasn’t going fine and I strongly needed to book a ride at the time. After several failed attempts of trying to verify the account, I switched to Google for help.
In my search for help, I was able to find out that Uber support can only be done through the following channels:
- Social Media [Facebook & Twitter]
So I reached out to them via Email & Twitter and narrated the issues I was having with the App. Uber responded swiftly to my compliant and assured me that the issue will be resolved promptly. See extract from their chat with me.
That said, I was very far away from home and still needed to book a ride. I got on the phone with my Bae and we started gisting, right there and then it occurred to me that she could actually book a ride for me from Nigeria. I immediately sent her the address of my current location at the time and the address of my destination, and in less than 3 minutes a Uber ride was waiting for me outside.
To my surprise, I got outside and saw a lovely BMW, but I wasn’t sure if it was my Uber. So I asked the driver if he was a Uber driver expecting to pick up a lady called ‘My Bae’s name’, he said yes. So I hopped into the back seat.
I then called my Bae to find out if she had ordered for a Uber X or Uber Black, it turned out to be a Uber black but either ways, it was still cheaper than the conventional taxis.
The issue with my account is still yet to be resolved, but I have been relying on Bae to order my Uber remotely.
Now, back to my subject [Uber launches trip tracker], this new feature allows you track rides of your spouse, friends or loved ones. The Trip Traker feature also provides automatic notifications and the ability to follow along on the map whenever someone is riding under your Family Profile.
With the Trip Tracker feature, you’ll know when family members are headed out – you’ll know when they are on their way, which route they are taking and when they’ve arrived.
Here’s how it works:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the Uber app.
- Set up your Family Profile.
- When one of your members takes a ride with Uber under the Family Profile, you’ll be automatically notified with their trip details.
- You can follow the trip’s progress live on the map within your own Uber app.
- The cost of the ride is automatically billed to you and you will both receive a copy of the receipt.
Here’s are a few screen grabs to get you started:
As much as I like this feature, I do not think I want my movement to be tracked 100% by Bae. Let me know what you think about this in the comments below.
